We ask that you please review this FAQ page in its entirety before participating so you can better understand what to expect before and during the event. Also, be advised that this FAQ page may frequently be updated as new information becomes available; we will make every effort to contact participants when it does so.
As the organizers, we are making every effort to make the Costume Bowl a fun, fair, and safe event for everyone. By registering and participating in the event, you agree to abide by these rules and those set by Cordova Lanes.
If you have any questions not covered on this FAQs page, please contact email@example.com, the earlier, the better, so we can make sure all issues are taken care of. All organizers of the Costume Bowl — both members of the USS Continuum and Parjai Squad — are volunteers. That means they all have real-life jobs, family, and friends. They have other responsibilities in their respective organizations. They possibly have other people also asking them questions about the Costume Bowl. We strive to deal with each issue as quickly as humanly possible and ask for your patience and understanding.

The Costume Bowl is an exciting bowling charity fundraiser coordinated by the USS Continuum and the Parjai Squad. Group captains register their groups for a lane by submitting an application along with a $75 group entry fee ($3 extra for online registrations). They then ask friends, family members, co-workers, neighbors, etc. to join them and have fun bowling on the day of the event.
The Costume Bowl differs from other bowling events primarily by 1) encouraging people to bowl in costume and 2) by the use of “Mulligans” to change bowlers’ scores.
All proceeds raised at the Costume Bowl (unless otherwise specified) will be used to support two local charities: Manna Food Pantries and the Gulf Coast Kids’ House. This includes from lane rentals, mulligans, raffles, photos, and bake sales.

Mulligans, bake sales, and raffles take place throughout the Costume Bowl. Photo ops begin after the photos for the costume contest are complete.
Are pictures and/or videoing allowed?
Pictures and videos will be taken by the event organizers for future promotional purposes. By participating in the Costume Bowl, you agree to have your likeness recorded, without compensation, to be used solely for such purposes and will not hold the USS Continuum, Parjai Squad, Cordova Lanes or any other person or organization liable for any consequences as resulting from such.
Participants and others may also bring their own cameras for use. Members of the Parjai Squad and the USS Continuum will gladly pose for pictures throughout the event when they are available.
Go to registration page and fill out the form. Submit the form electronically along with registration fee (either electronically or by mail). Registration and fee must be received by 11:59 p.m., Saturday, May 6 in order to ensure lanes are reserved in time for the event. You will receive a confirmation upon completed registration.
Register and assemble your group (in either order). Ask friends, family members, co-workers, and the like to bowl with you at your lane during the Costume Bowl. Be sure that each player has read this FAQs page, so they can know what to expect.
Discuss your costume ideas with one another. Having a common theme for your bowlers is a fun way to participate and encourage teamwork.
Group Captains will be contacted with any changes to the event. They are responsible for notifying all their team members of said changes.
How you organize your group is entirely up to you. You may have one person register the team while another is responsible for getting bowlers to sign up, for instance.
We prefer having only one person per group to serve as a contact, and then have that person share information with the rest. This tends to keep things running more smoothly. However, if you would like to list an alternate contact, please include it in the Additional Info box.
Yes, if there are lanes still available. And that’s why we strongly encourage you to pre-register.
We have to coordinate with Cordova Lanes as to how many of their twenty-four lanes we will need. Anything we don’t use will still be made available to people not associated with the Costume Bowl.
You can have as many as six and as few as one. We recommend four to five bowlers though. But keep in mind, the smaller the group, the less time each player has to wait before they can bowl again.
Absolutely! We’ll make every effort to include anyone we can by providing assistance when requested. However, members of the USS Continuum or Parjai Squad or employees of Cordova Lanes cannot help anyone bowl. Young children or people with specific physical or mental challenges can, however, have a family member, friend, or another team member help them do such, if necessary.
While we appreciate your enthusiasm, seeing how we have not yet mastered time travel or cloning, this will be next to impossible to successfully do. You may have multiple organizations as you to be a part of their group, but please only pick one.

Although we will only be having one event this year, if you are unable to participate in the bowling, we still invite you to join us to take part of the bake sale, photo ops, and raffles, which you do not need to be a bowler to take part in. You can also find learn more about the Continuum and Parjai Squad and our two charities.
Yes, provided that you contact firstname.lastname@example.org by 11:59 p.m., Saturday, May 6. A confirmation message will be sent if it has been successfully received in time.
When we reserve lanes, we’re charged for them even if they’re not used. We won’t automatically cancel a registration if someone doesn’t arrive on time. It’s assumed they’re just running late but still plan to attend. And by having that lane on-hold, Cordova Lanes won’t be able to charge someone else if they wish to use it.
While we certainly hope it doesn’t happen, certain circumstances beyond our control might lead for us to cancel. If possible, we will look to reschedule and will contact the teams, offering to register them for that day and time. If a reschedule is not possible, we will provide a refund via check. (This allows us to avoid additional Paypal fees).
No. Costumes are used only to add a certain amount of fun to the event, but they are by no means required.
Like the costumes itself, themes are not required. There are encouraged though to have a little bit more fun and to encourage teamwork.

24. Can some of the bowlers in my group be in costume and others not?
Keep in mind, Cordova Lanes is a family-friendly environment. They will be a variety of people, including possibly children, present. Please make sure your attire is appropriate. If you have any questions as to whether or not it would be considered such, please contact email@example.com with an attached picture of the costume in question (preferably being worn).
Be wary of bulky costumes, those with long robes or that otherwise hang loose, those that can be extremely easily damaged, and those with helmets that limit vision. None of these are forbidden, per se, but do keep in mind that you’re expected to bowl in costume if you come in wearing such. Make sure you can move freely without too much trouble. We’d hate for you to damage your costume, hurt your score, or worse, hurt yourself.
Also, be wary of thick layers. Not only will we be probably experiencing spring or maybe even summer temperatures outside, you’ll also be exercising while in a crowd of people. Be careful you don’t overheat!
We will allow only a glove to be taken off to fit your fingers into the bowling ball and still be eligible for any of the awards we’re giving out.
You can bring various props relevant to your costumes, but they may need to be checked when you arrive. As no costumed prop can be used to help you (unless for medical conditions), help another player, or hinder another player, they cannot be brought into the bowling area when games are going on.
If Lord Vader must wear them when he steps into the bowling area, then so must you! While it may not match your costume, bowling shoes are required when bowling. The price for the use of bowling shoes for all players on a team is included in the registration fee.
Yes. But since we are being charged a flat-rate by Cordova Lanes, we cannot give any types of discounts to bowlers doing such.
They will be a check-in table to your left (“The Bridge”) when you enter Cordova Lanes. There you’ll receive information about lane assignments and about getting your bowling shoes.
The lanes won’t be turned on until 1 p.m., so if you’re there early, check out our bake sales and raffles and learn more about the event organizers and our charities.
If you can’t make it by 1 p.m., that’s okay. You lane is still reserved for you. However, we cannot give you any partial refunds, exchanges, or extra bowling time if you arrive late.
Mulligans are a way for you to change your score or the scores of others during the game. They are special tickets that are sold as “Strikes” or “Gutters.” When these tickets are used, they change yours of another player’s score as if that’s what was bowled. Only specifically-market tickets can be used for “Strikes” and “Gutters,” respectively.
Mulligans are turned in at the Cordova Lanes’ desk counter. Please identify which lane and which numbered bowler.
You can also purchase Mulligans to activate the bumpers for a game.
How much do they cost?
$5 for “Strikes.” $2.50 for “Gutters.” $10 for Bumpers.
Mulligans will be sold at “The Bridge.” We prefer cash in bills of $20 or smaller as this tends to keep the lines moving faster. But we can take larger bills, as well as checks, debit, and credit cards.
Only 40 of each. Only when a person uses a “Strike” or “Gutter” does that Mulligan go back onto the market.
Yes. In fact, as long all players have enough Mulligans to play and are willing to play them, there is no limit on how many can be played in a particular frame for a player. The last one played is the one that will take effect.

- What types of awards will be given out at the Costume Bowl?
- The Force is Strong with This One: awarded to the individual with the highest score in the second game.
- The Galaxy’s Finest Away Team: awarded to the group with the highest average in the second game.
- Set on Stun-ning: awarded to the individual with the most creative costume.
- Strange New Worlds: awarded to the group with the best overall costumed theme.
- I Don’t Believe in the No-Win Scenario: awarded to the player with the lowest score.
- Red Shirts Always Die and Stormtroopers Can’t Hit Anything: awarded to the group with the best sportsmanship.
- The Will of the Collective Force: awarded to the group with the best team spirit.
- The Augments’ Turkey: Awarded to the player with longest Turkey streak in a game (A “Turkey” is getting a minimum of three strikes in a row).
- The Clone Troopers’ Turkey: Awarded to the group with the biggest percentage of players getting Turkeys in a game.
Each winner in each category will score one point for their respective team — “Team Empire” or “Team Federation” — to determine the “Team Winner.”
But let’s make the real winners be the Manna Food Pantries and the Gulf Coast Kids’ House!
- Bake Sales
Advertising space for the Costume Bowl is available. A 30” x 48” plastic sign that will be hung around Cordova Lanes from Thursday, May 4 to Monday, May 8, reaching an estimated 800 people is $100. A 30″ x 24″ plastic sign hung for the same time frame is $50.
A “Co-Sponsorship Display” will allow businesses and other organizations to showcase a business card during the event on May 7. Cost to be featured on the display is $10.
We are also accepting donations for items to be auctioned off and for prizes for top bowlers.
Many of the displays brought, such as the USS Continuum’s bridge displays, are actually created to have the public interact with them and get their pictures taken with them. However, please be respectful of all displays! These are sturdy! However, as with anything, if it’s abused enough, they will break! All these displays cost time and money to build, and we’d like to have them around for everyone to enjoy for years to come.
