Recently, members of the USS Continuum have decided to make a few changes in our meetings that will help us better support a local business that has supported us for years!
Starting on Wednesday, October 5, we’ll be moving our first Wednesday meeting to Maximilian Coffee. It’s located at 3419 N 12th Ave in Pensacola. The meeting time of 6:30 pm will remain the same.
On Saturday, October 15, we’re moving our third Saturday meeting right next door to the Cactus Flower Cafe, 3425 N 12th Ave. Our meeting time will also change: moving up to 10 a.m.
We’ve known owner Lee Kafeety since 2009 when we met her at the (then) Rave Cinemas during the Star Trek movie premiere. As Lee is also a Trek fan, we’ve visited the Cactus Flower several times over the years. The Cactus Flower Cafe was also one of our sponsors for the last two Costume Bowls.
The USS Continuum looks forward to continue working with local businesses like the Cactus Flower to better serve our community.
Join us for “Star Trek Day!” today at the West Florida Library, 239 N Spring Street, from 11 am to 3 pm!
The Continuum will have its display & information, but they’ll also be face painting, crafts & games, trivia, a scavenger hunt (Searching for Spock), and an appearance by the First City Shakespeare acting troupe.

It’s a little hard for me to believe that it’s been an entire week since our crew was at the Star Trek: Beyond premiere. Life has yet to get completely back to normal for me, but it is slowly making it. Still, I’d like to take this time to say “thank you” to the following people and groups:
- Carmike Cinemas at 5149 Bayou Blvd for once again being great hosts for us. We’ve been with them for the last three movies and a few other special events and they’ve always been great to us.
- My fellow Continuum crewmembers Peter Arce, Lyn Bason, Dan Ditto, Eric Fass, Connie Fleming, Paul Jacobs, Peggy Moshell, Don Villines, Chris Weidel, and Mark Wright for helping me maintain our table and displays during the weekend.
- Julio Diaz for the great article that appeared in last Saturday’s Pensacola News Journal.
- And finally, every moviegoer that stopped by our table, talked with our members, picked up some information about the Continuum, filled out our Visitors’ Log, and got your picture taken in the Captain’s Chair. Seventy-two seems to be our magic number. That’s how many people signed our “Visitor’s Log” this last weekend, the same number of people that signed the Log during the Star Trek: Into Darkness Premier. We enjoyed meeting you all and hope you’ll join us.
Part of the reason the USS Continuum exists is to help promote Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic vision. We do this in many different ways, but one of the more prominent things we do is be involved in community service and to support other charitable organizations.
Last month, the Continuum teamed up with the 501st Legion’s Parjai Squad for the Costume Bowl II. On Sunday, April 24, we raised $1,100 to support Manna Food Pantries and the Gulf Coast Kid’s House and had a fun time doing it. Many thanks to the members of both organizations who came and to the several local businesses that provided support.
The community service continues tomorrow morning at the SAFER Santa Rosa “Alien Invasion” Expo happening at the Gulf Breeze Community Center. Come, learn how your home and business against disasters and your photo taken in our Captain’s Chair.
And next month, crew members will be handing out tribbles and other items as they pose for pictures in uniform/costume at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital on June 18.
Only 47 more years until the Vulcans arrive.
“Star Trek Day” is tomorrow, but we’ve decided to celebrate a day early.
Typically, on the first Monday of the month, we get together for “Dinner at Ten Forward” to eat a meal together. But this year, this month we’re doing it slightly different. This is “Star Trek Day” on the 50th Anniversary, after all.
The Continuum will be at McGuire’s Irish Pub, located at 600 E Gregory St, downtown Pensacola, with our crew in uniform or other Star Trek costume. (Most of them, anyway). And we’re inviting you to come join us. Uniforms or costumes are not required. Our main goal is always to enjoy each other’s company while celebrating the great sci-fi phenomenon that brings us all together.
Just a quick note… 2016 is already gearing up to a amazing (yet very busy) year! We’ve just finished up with Pensacon where we were excited to meet people who stopped by our fan table at the Crowne Plaza. We are also very excited to be a part of the “Costume Cosplay Day” at the Pensacola Intergalactic Airport. (Check out the photos from the event here). Also, many thank to Atlas Oyster House for hosting the TOS Bridge Set — Captain’s Chair & Helm/Navigation console — during the weekend; always a great staff, great location, and great food!
With last weekend’s Region 2 Summit finished, the Continuum is turning its focus first to our yard sale a week from this Saturday and to the Costume Bowl. Last year’s Bowl was a huge success, raising over $1,300 for Manna Food Pantries and Gulf Coast Kid’s House, and we hope to raise even more this year.
And plenty more things are coming:
- Display workshops. The next one is set for Saturday, April 2 as we do some touchups for the Helm/Nav console and then transport our attention to… ahem, the Transporter Console & Pad.
- “Star Trek Day” to be celebrated a day early on Monday, April 4 in uniform/costume as part of April’s “Dinner at Ten Forward”
- Costuming workshops
- Star Trek Viewings
- Star Trek Gaming
- More public appearances, including future conventions and the Star Trek Beyond weekend premiere.
To encourage even more participation, our group has started giving out latinum to our members for being at meetings, community service events, recruiting events, fundraisers, and workshops. Those members can then trade in their bars to have the Continuum
help pay for uniforms/costumes, trips to conventions, items in the Continuum
store, and more. Just a way we’re giving back to our group for all the hard work in supporting us. To get your fair share, make sure you join

And finally, maybe you’ve been thinking about checking our group out in-person but have been a little hesitant because you’re not sure as to what you’ll be getting into. We ask you to come to our Saturday, March 19th meeting where we’ll be giving more details about the Continuum
; our parent organization, STARFLEET
; and all the many things we have planned. It’s a meeting geared more to newcomers. Check us out. There’s never any obligation to officially become a member. Casual attire, relaxed atmosphere. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a fan for 50 years or 50 minutes or what you’re favorite series is. I’ve found that the best way to further Trek
fandom is for people to be involved with groups like the USS Continuum
. Sure, you can enjoy Star Trek
privately with your friends and family, but official groups stand out in the public eye whether it be in conventions, through community service, or at our events. And you’re able to have fun sharing your passion for everything sci-fi with people that share that passion. This is truly a great time for you to check us out!
We’re finally here! And we’ve got big things in store to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek. Be checking back to the Continuum website for more information coming soon. And don’t forget to be a part of the action by joining us at our meetings and other scheduled events.
A few changes in our upcoming events:
First, the Continuum is now starting to meet twice a month to keep up with its busy schedule. The first meeting will be on the first Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The second will be on the third Saturday at 3 p.m. Both will be at Village Inn outside of Cordova Mall. However…
We will not be meeting in the month of December. The holiday season is a very busy time for everyone, so we have traditionally cancelled our meetings during that month. Our next meeting this Saturday will be the last of 2015. We will resume our meetings on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.
We will also not be having our “Dinner at Ten Forward” monthly social in December as it will be very to our Anniversary Dinner/Christmas Party on the 1st. We do plan to have some costuming and display construction workshops during the month. More information coming soon.
Starting next month, we’re changing up our schedule of events. Our Dinner at Ten Forward monthly dinners will now take place on the first Monday at 6:30 p.m., and our Monthly Meetings will take place on the 3rd Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Continuum plans to kick it into high-gear this September!
First, at the conclusion of our meeting this Sunday, we’ll continue our discussion of Star Trek uniforms and other costumes. If you’re interested in costume-making (with or without a pattern) or if you’d like to get one made, you’re more than welcome to join us. This is NOT limited to just Starfleet uniforms but also includes anything throughout Star Trek’s 49-year history. Just bring us some pictures, and we’ll go from there.
Second, at 7 pm on Thursday the 10th we’ll be meeting at Books-a-Million to begin discussing plans to build a TOS transporter room. As with all our displays, we like to keep them portable, so we’ll be looking at blueprints, pictures, and other tips to come up with a plan as to how to best do that.
And third, we’ll be at BRACE’s Youth Emergency Preparedness (YEP) Expo at Washington High School on Saturday the 12th from 10 am to 2 pm. BRACE is the Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies, and they’ll be having “‘Survivor Land’ to prepare children,youth and families for disasters through the region’s largest “Youth Emergency Preparedness” (YEP!) expo.” Continuum members will be there in costume with other sci-fi characters.
