Since October 1992, the U.S.S. Continuum has distinguished itself as Northwest Florida’s premier Star Trek and science fiction fan organization. Members, through their backgrounds, interests, and abilities, are as diverse as the various sci-fi series, movies, novels, and comics they enjoy. Whether you’re interested in a wide spectrum of science fiction or just enjoy one or two types … whether you consider yourself a true “fanatic” or just an ordinary fan … we welcome you to take a part in all the Continuum has to offer.
Yet the Continuum is more than just a fan group that talks about Star Trek and other science fiction. Since its founding, it has been active in helping various community service organizations. These include the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, the Ronald McDonald House, Manna Food Bank, Adopt-A-Shore, and Clean and Green. Members in the Continuum are not just interested in dreaming of different worlds, but in also helping improve life right here on planet Earth.
We also study science. The cosmos holds a lot of mystery and much of our attention, but we also realize our planet holds just as much undiscovered wonder. We follow shuttle, satellite, and probe mission and other scientific projects, and we share our discoveries with the public through various activities.
Monthly meetings allow members to come together and discuss new ideas, share information, and generally “hang out.” We also recognize crewmembers that have distinguished themselves through extraordinary service to both the Continuum and the community. Although how much each member is involved in the club varies, active crewmembers note there’s nothing quite like being involved, helping our club and community prosper. We meet at the Pensacola Books-A-Million at 7pm on the first Friday of each month and we meet again at Pensacola Junior College in the classroom across from the planetarium at 7pm on the third Friday of each month. Although the Continuum is a chapter of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Association, membership in STARFLEET is not required for joining the Continuum, although it is highly encouraged. Members of the Continuum who are also members of STARFLEET have the opportunity to vote in elections, hold Officer rank, hold official ship positions, and take part in everything STARFLEET has to offer.
